Trials 

Trials require you and your Navigator to keep a close eye on time, navigation, and average speed. They are not speed events, and all normal road rules must be followed.  Other Clubs run the serious, "Rally of NZ', events for those who like to sail along gravel roads on their doorhandles. 

Our trials range from a simple round-the-local-roads-for-an-hour brain teaser right through to the serious, long distance, complicated, head down 'where the hell are we' - 'say that again and I'll speak to my lawyer' test of strength, character, and digestion. 

Regulars have in built calculators and devious minds.  However, to help newer members, the Club holds periodic training sessions at Club Nights, so you can tell the difference between the 'Straight Ahead Rule' and the 'Line of Least Deviation'.

19 June 2016 Trial

After the 9am Breakfast at White House Black we ran a  short, simple Trial for our beginners - and to get our experts back up to speed.  There'll be  a report in the next MaG.

Briefly,  the nineteen Driver/Navigator teams did well.  One team withdrew: all the others got back to the final control at the breakfast venue with completed sheets.  Several had exactly the correct average speed.

Looking at errors, several teams  didn't fully take in the ASR's and wound up going down 'No Exit' roads.  Others had some trouble identifying the correctly worded sign out of the three at Lady Wigram Retirement Village.  But, it appears  that nobody read the instructions right through and understood the final question 'How many streets named after aircraft did you cross'.  Many people noted the seven such streets actually used, but didn't notice that only four were  actually crossed (Skyhawk, Corsair, Valiant and Kittyhawk).

All in  all, it  was a great, fun run.  Thanks to all who entered.
